In what way did Dawn of the Dead 2004 meet/not meet your expectations?
i expected there to be a lot of special effects make up in the film and there was. i also expected there to be a lot of special effects suck as things blowing up things or lots of action such as killing the zombies with guns or heavy objects. the film exceeded my expectations because i didn't expect a lot because of the first film but the remake was a lot better and it included a lot of make up and lots of special effects.
the reason for this is because i wasn't sure if the film would be good after watching the first one. however, the remake was a lot better, i think this was because they made it look really realistic as if the world had been taken over by zombies. they also had a good story line with good characters to show that even the ones you love are in danger and that you should stick close with the people who are still alive.
The scene that scared me the most was when Luda the pregnant one was slowly turning into a zombie and Andre the boyfriend was trying to deliver the baby. but then Luda died and he thought the baby would die too, then Luda came back as a zombie and gave birth to the baby, but the baby was a zombie and had to be killed.
i think this was achieved by the editor creating a fake baby for the film. they did a good job at making the baby look as if it was dead. they did this by having the babies eyes purple and evil looking eye balls. they also did this by having the baby try to attack hem while they are slowly looking at it. the scene was effective because it shows that if you are affected, so is your baby if you are pregnant. it is also effective because it shows that even the small people can get effective and try and kill you.
Narrative
there was a lot of zombies to show that the world has been taken over with this infection that turns the dead into the living dead. there was also characters that were still alive which shows that they haven't given up and that they will try to find a safe place. the action involved showed the audience what type of film this could be by having the alive characters kill the zombies with many different objects. i also think the action where they had to build the vans to escape was indicating that they were hoping to find a safe place.
Technical
there were a wide variety of camera angled. for example, they used long shot to show the surroundings and show how many zombies wanted to get into the building. they used close up shots to show the emotion of the characters faces. they used medium close up to show that the characters were covered in blood and that they have been fighting to live. the editing was good and they managed to edit many effects such as cars blowing up, heads being cut, fake baby and lots of fire. the music was really effective because it creates a scary tension by playing scary music in the background. you know if the music is scary something scary is about to happen. there was also a lot of gun shot and zombie groans as sound effects which was really effective.
mise-en-scene
the main location was a mall which enabled the characters to have a lot of secure places to hide while they escape the zombies. the costumes were effective because they were covered in fake blood and special effects make up to show that they are dead. they had many props such as guns, crowbars, cars and more. the lighting was dark because of the location that they were in.

Amee, you have made some interesting points here. You have demonstrated that you have a good grasp of the way in which genre has been conveyed within this film. To improve, work on using more terminology. Your points could also be discussed in further detail. For example, how/why does the film come across as more realistic? In addition, make more references to specific scenes within the film to support your points. This post also needs to be completed.
