Music Video Analysis

I am going to be analysing the music video The Storm by The Blackout.

Editing
The editing in this video is very simple. The director used fast cut to edit between locations. The editor used fast cut to match the beat of the song because it is a fast beat song therefore fading wouldn't work. However, they do have a lot of slow motion action shots in the music video.

Mise-en-scene
There are only a few locations used to create this music video and they are: a raining stage, swimming pool and a dining room. The director has used the raining stage to match the name of the song 'The Storm' and to show the band members. The director has used a swimming pool to show Sean trying to warn the man who is fighting with his girlfriend. The director used the dining room as a location to show where the couple are fighting and in the background they have a picture frame which shows Sean underwater in the swimming pool.
The lighting throughout the video is mainly dark to symbolise 'The Storm'. the lighting is brighter in the dining room to enable us to see what is happening.
There were many props used throughout the music video such as: band equipment, picture frame, dining room table with food and cutlery, flare guns and rain. They have used the band equipment to show the band playing the instruments. The picture frame was used in the dining room to show Sean underwater. The dining room table with cutlery and food was used to show that the location is the dining room and not just a random room in the house. The flare gun was used to show that someone is trying to help Sean find his way out of the water. The rain was used to connect with the song and the feelings shown by the people in the music video.
The band were dressed all in black throughout the music video so people would focus on the song and not them. The two other characters in the music video are dressed in smart black clothes to show they are about to have a nice meal.

Camera
The director used a lot of close up shots in the music video to show the emotions and feeling of that person. They also used long motion shots to show the band playing instruments and to show the two characters and what they are doing.

Purpose
The purpose of this music video was to promote The Blackouts latest single and to help promote it they made a music video. They linked the video with the song title and the lyrics. They do this by having the set covered in water and rain, this creates the atmosphere of a storm which will remind people that they have a song called The Storm. By promoting the new single they are also promoting themselves. They promote themselves by being in the music video performing so everyone knows what they look like and who they are.

This is Gospel - Panic At The Disco -- Camera Angles

In this post i will be outlining the different camera angles used in the making of the music video This Is Gospel.
The first camera angle is medium close up.They use the medium close up to show emotion by using facial expressions. This is used to show Brendon's emotions. In this case it shows confusion and struggling.
Throughout the video, the medium close up shot is used a lot. This is because they want to show Brendon's emotions throughout the video. The medium close up shot shows many emotions throughout the video. these are: struggle, confused, peace, relaxation, pain and death.

Another shot used to make this music video is a motion shot. They used the motion shot to show Brendon trying to escape and be free. You can tell it is a motion shot because Brendon is trying to run away with ropes attached to him and he is trying to escape the grip of the doctors.

The other shot is a tilted frame shot. This is used to show that Brendon is laying in a coffin about to be berried underwater.

In conclusion, I think that the camera angles in this video are used wisely and have been used correctly

Beyonce - If I Were A Boy Music Video - Mise En Scene

In this post I am going to be breaking the Beyonce music video 'if i were a boy' down by using Mise En Scene
Beyonce - If I Were A Boy

The Genre of this music video/song by Beyonce is pop.

In the Beyonce music video 'If I Were A Boy', the editor used many locations to show where the average male would spend his day. Such as: police station, police car, locker room, gun studio, bar, night club, restaurant and at home. They use the police station because Beyonce was playing the role of her boyfriend who worked as a police man. Without all of these settings, the video would be hard to understand.

Beyonce used many props within the music video, such as: gun, alcohol and a police car. They matched the props to the locations to bring the music video together.

The lighting and colour of this video was black and white. They used black and white to show Beyonce's feelings throughout the video.

Throughout the music video, Beyonce uses many face expressions mixed with many different types of body language. Some of these were: crying to show she was hurt, smirking to show she was flirting and laughing to show she was happy.

Beyonce played the role of her boyfriend in the music video to show her understanding of what men do and how it can hurt a girl. Her boyfriend played the part of the girlfriend so that he could see what it feels like when he acts the way he normally acts. This is shown by the positioning of the characters and the boyfriend was standing alone in the corner watching his girlfriend flirt. This showed that he was hurt by what she was doing and that he needed to changed the way he acted.

Beyonce was using many different costumes in the music video. These were, smartly dressed as a woman in the kitchen, police uniform when she went to work, underwear while she was getting changed after work and casual clothes while at the bar. The director used different costumes to make the music video smooth by having the costume fit the right setting.
